NICU Employees Recognized for Excellence

Jenny, a RN in Woman’s NICU, was recently nominated for a DAISY Award by a patient:

We will never forget the overwhelming heartache of having our baby boy unexpectedly sent to the NICU less than an hour after delivery, but Jenny was an absolute angel and was one of the best nurses I have come across in my lifetime. She was so compassionate and caring, and I don’t know that I could have mentally handled my baby being there without her. She embodies everything that Woman’s Hospital stands for, and I will be forever grateful for the amazing care she gave both my baby and me. Thank you so much for being so amazing Jenny, we will cherish you forever!

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the autoimmune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. If you would like to say “thank you” to a nurse who made a difference you will never forget, nominate them for a DAISY Award.

Yolanda, a Neonatal Care Technician in Woman’s NICU, was also recently nominated for a BEE Award by a patient:

Ms. Yolanda is an angel! What a wonderfully gentle and loving soul she is! My family and I were in the hospital after delivery for four nights, and my baby and husband were in the NICU. Ms. Yolanda went above and beyond to make sure we were always comfortable. She ordered my lunch while I was with my baby in the NICU so that it would arrive in my room by the time I returned to Mother/Baby. She made sure I had something to prop my feet up while in the NICU because I was dealing with postpartum swelling. She made sure my husband had whatever he needed all the time. She was so sweet and kind, and we will always be thankful for her and how accommodating she was.

The BEE (Being Excellent Every Day) Award recognizes team members outside of nursing for going above and beyond to care for patients, visitors and each other. If you would like to say “thank you” to a staff member who made a difference you will never forget, nominate them for a Daisy or Bee Award.
