Cranberry-Apple Crumble Recipe

It’s okay if the one thing you’re most excited about for Thanksgiving is the desserts. We certainly can’t blame you! During the holidays, it can be difficult to save calories for dessert when there are so many delicious options to eat. An easy way to ensure you can indulge your sweet tooth is to make a healthier version of highly caloric desserts.

Here’s a yummy dessert option that allows you to savor the sweetness without colossal calories.

Filling:

1/4 cup dried cranberries

1 tbsp lemon juice

4 Braeburn apples, peeled*, cored, and chopped (about 4 cups)

Cooking spray

*Leave the peel on if desired

Topping:

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (about 1 ounce)

1/3 cup brown sugar OR 3 tbsp Splenda Brown Sugar Blend

6 tbsp regular oats

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

3 tbsp chilled light butter, cut into small pieces

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • To prepare filling, combine the first 3 ingredients, tossing well. Place apple mixture in an 11 x 7-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray.
  • To prepare topping, lightly spoon the flour into a dry measuring cup, and level with a knife. Combine flour and the next 5 ingredients (through nutmeg), stirring with a whisk. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  • Sprinkle butter mixture evenly over apple mixture.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until filling is bubbly and topping is golden.
