Weight Loss: More than Numbers on a Scale

What makes a weight loss plan successful is different for every person; for Ashley it was a personalized program that focused on real food, fitness, and coaching – Woman’s 12- week BALANCE Program. Here’s what she had to say about the program.

How did you hear about Woman’s BALANCE Program?

I had done physical therapy at Woman’s Center for Wellness in the past. I had also used their pool and gym, so I was familiar with the facility. I was interested in the program for a while, but was hesitant to spend the money on myself because I have two daughters.

What made you want to participate?

I received an email from a national weight loss program in late December 2019 that said I could use my flexible spending arrangement (FSA dollars) with my doctor’s approval. That made me curious, and according to the IRS’ website it was true. So I sent the BALANCE info to my FSA and got it approved. I told myself “there’s no other time, do it now.”

What was your experience like with Woman’s?

Like everything in 2020, it was different! I was only 2-3 weeks into the program when COVID-19 hit. Thankfully, Woman’s Center for Wellness made modifications so I could safely continue the program. I had weekly phone calls from my health coach and the workouts were modified to do from home. I was so lucky that, unlike many, I didn’t gain any weight during the stay-at-home order because of BALANCE. I’ve proven so much to myself this year!

How has BALANCE helped you?

  • Fitness: I felt bad all the time, quit being able to do the day-to-day stuff and felt down on myself. Now, I come to the gym and get on the elliptical for 30 minutes. When I started BALANCE my baseline was a modified plank at 25 seconds. Now I’m able to do a full plank for 1 minute and 20 seconds! With the right motivations and the right people behind you, you can do things even if you feel like you can’t. I find I have less pain. I am able to do more and more exercises without modification. And I feel super comfortable coming to the gym!
  • Diet: I always felt like I was in a good place with my diet, but knew I could make some changes. I don’t like fads. I was able to focus more on what I was actually eating and made little incremental changes that added up. For instance, I pay way more attention to how much oil I use. I also use more salt-free flavorings. I roast more vegetables now. My husband, who wasn’t even trying, has lost 17 pounds from these small changes too!
  • Mindset: This program also helped me mentally! I’ve learned to be kind to myself because we are always hard on ourselves. We are always looking at the negatives and not recognizing what we have achieved. I knew I was making headway, and I want to keep going.


I’ve lost around 25 pounds using Woman’s BALANCE Program. But I don’t want to get caught up in the numbers on the scale. My idea was about me making myself a priority and finding ways to live. My journey was about more than just losing weight, it proved that I could accomplish things. Most importantly, I feel good.

Why would you recommend this service or program to someone?

I would 100% recommend this program to anyone, especially people who feel that they can’t go to the gym or feel like they don’t have any space in their life to make changes. The team at Woman’s Center Wellness is phenomenal and gave unending support. BALANCE focuses on a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. You will be absolutely amazed at the accomplishments you can make.
